How are you ‘making it happen’ for International Women’s Day this year?

The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day, on Sunday, is ‘make it happen: encouraging effective action for advancing and recognising women.’

If you would like to recognise and promote awareness on International Women’s Day, next week is a great time to showcase some of the great work you are already doing internally for your female population’s recognition and advancement.

Consider these simple and quick ways to celebrate International Women’s Day within your organisation:

  1.  Show your support as a company or department or as an individual by being active on social media next week  – see details here:  http://www.internationalwomensday.com/theme.asp#.VPmR4tJFDb0
  1. Give to a women’s charity of your choice – either personally or consider speaking to your internal charities team – and then blog about it to increase awareness
  1. If you are already running a meeting/workshop/conference next week that supports women’s development – link the marketing of the event to International Women’s Day
  1. Do you know of a particular woman or group of women in your company or department who have actively promoted the advancement of women?  Or someone who has recently done charity work for a women’s organisation?  If so, profile them on the intranet!  Email them a couple of questions about their work and post it online
  1. Download the International Women’s Day logo from here: http://www.internationalwomensday.com/linkto.asp#.VPmXPNJFDb0 and paste it on your intranet page, email signature for a week or even print it out and stick it on your desk!

The Guardian has published a list of events around the country which will give you some inspiration:
